Duplicate entries

Postby Cooky101 on Wed Mar 03, 2010 9:38 am

Hi milow.

First of all let me thank you for your hard work sharing this cool program with us.

Yesterday I flashed my device and installed ActiveGCSync right away to get all my contacts and appointments synced from GC to OL. So far that works like a charm. Unfortunately, from that point on ActiveGCSync will copy all appointments from OL to GC on every Sync causing duplicate entries. This morning I had like 10 copies of (nearly) each appointment  It seems that each of the follow up syncs terminates with an error as not all appointments were duplicated, but only the first X ones...

I re-set my device again, restored a backup copy of my GC calendars and re-installed ActiveGCSync, but the result was the same :|

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Cheers.

This is strange. I've done the same thing recently when I got my new phone and everything has been fine (no duplicates).

ActiveGcSync will only send an event up to Google if it thinks that the event is different.. Could this be a time zone issue? On my new phone I had to set the time zone to manual so that it would not automatically switch to a similiar, but wrong, one. Someone else on this forum had the same issue..

Now that might be an option - I set it to receive time and date from the web based on my location
I'll try re-setting it again in the evening after work and fix the time zone - I'll keep you posted if it works.

Thanks a lot for the fast response.

So - as promised I report back to you with first results:
I tried manual sync several times now and it seems to be working. So the problem indeed appears to be caused by the dynamic time retrieval :?

Now that I know what to do, it's not a big deal, but having time updated automatically when moving one time zone to another would be nice to have. Do you see any chance to ignore time zone differences if the offset is the same (e.g. GMT +01:00) in future versions?

Anyway - thanks a lot for the fast and competent response and for sharing your program with us.

ActiveGcSync is time zone aware, and does work when switching time zones. However, I've found that some time zones used in Windows Mobile 6 are different than WM5. I have fixed this particular issue in the latest ActiveGcSync but it is Beta for now. If you'd like to try it out (with automatic time zone changes enabled) then send me a PM and I can mail it to you.

Keep in mind, however, that for recurring events, if you create an event in one time zone, you will not be able to update it in another time zone. This may be an issue if you are in the Eastern time zone and your phone is switching to Indiana time zone, for example.

I was too quick concluding that it works now :(

This morning I again have duplicates in my GC (not on the phone) and the last sync log from 07:10 says:

"Syncing calendar XXX
Getting update feed
GC: Deleting event 'A' - 12.03.10
RequestException for event A
GC: Adding event 'A' - 12.03.10
RequestException for event B
GC: Adding event 'B' - 31.03.10
---------
Syncing calendar YYY
Getting update feed
[...]"

And thereafter it continues with exceptions for all other events in this way. I fixed the time zone on my device to "GMT +01:00 Berlin, Rome" and GC is set to "GMT +01:00 Berlin". So I guess there's another problem...

I'll give your latest beta a try if you don't mind. PM is on the way.

Hey Milow.

I apologize for getting on your nerves, but I still have the same problem of duplicate entries in your newest beta version although I fixed time zones to a specific setting. It seems that whenever ActiveGCSync runs into a RequestException while syncing an event, it assumes this event to be missing in GC and therefore adds it. However, I don't have any idea what might cause such a RequestException - maybe you can help me with that?

Additionally, I ran into the problem, that when I modified the number of a contact on my phone, this information gets overwritten by the GC version although I'm sure this contact was not altered on GC since the last sync. Don't know if that might be related to my other problem?

If I can provide you with any additional information that might be helpful (e.g., log file, winmo version, device, etc.), please let me know.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Can you send me your detailed log file. The location of it is on the FAQ but it is at Application Data\ActiveGcSync. Also if you can send me any other files such as the xml feed that google sends down. Make sure you overwrite any personal information from there. I am not sure why the RequestException is thrown, maybe that will help.

As for your contact issue, can you be more specific about which numbers exist in your google contact and outlook contact (ie. work, home, etc) and which number you are changing?

So - sent you a copy of the complete ActiveGCSync folder in Application Data - hope that includes all information you need to pin down the problem.

Thanks again.

P.S. The contact included only one mobile number in both versions and this was changed on the phone but not on GC.
